How to do a clean installation of Ubuntu Server 18.04.3 LTS

Ubuntu Server 18.04.3 LTS have long term of support as per Ubuntu team will be until April 2023 — 64-bit only, including the Train release of OpenStack. now there is new release also available and you can go and install Ubuntu Server 19.10, but our tutorial will be for Ubuntu Server 18.04.3 LTS  

Doing this tutorial using Oracle VM VirtualBox, ubuntu-18.04.3-live-server-amd64.ios as software

Installation done on Specification of Virtual Machine as below

Processor: 1 CPU

RAM: 2048 MB

Storage: 10 GB

Actual Size: 2.57 GB (after installation)

Installation

Ubuntu Installation process will guide you throw many steps to selected option available like language, computer name , hard disk type, network configuration and so on , once all this option finish Ubuntu will start copy file and do installation at end if your computer or server connect throw internet Ubuntu will automatically update all file with option to cancel it and you will be asked for restart and you can login normal to your server , all these are straight forward step and its very clear with no issue at all.

Step 1: Language

We are going to select langugae we are perfere

Step 2: Keyboard configuration  

Here Ubuntu give you chance to select Keyboard language –default one its English

Step 3: network configuration   

Ubuntu server request at least one interface to be configured

If you have connecting to internet with DHCP server installation will detect DHCP atomically and you will have Dynamic IP address if not you can configure it manually

Step 4: configure Proxy

Incase you install ubuntu server on network with Proxy to reach internet then you can inter your proxy direct during installation and Server will have internet

Step 5: File system Setup

Ubuntu Server have 3 option to install file system setup

  1. Use and Entire Disk
  2. Use and Entire Disk and Setup VLM
  3. Manual

Step 6: File system Setup

Ubuntu will as to confirm File system Setup and choose disk to install it

You must confirm all details because ubuntu will start installation files and you will lose any data

Step 8: Profile Setup

Enter your Name, Server name, User Name, and password.

Step 8: SSH Setup

Normally work on Ubuntu will throw comment and secure comment you need to install OpenSSH server package and Ubuntu installation process give us option to install this package directly during installation

Step 9: Featured Server Snaps

Ubuntu Server give us chance to select which package we need, listed from popular snaps in server environment.

Step 10: installation

Ubuntu Server will start installation

Step 11: Installation complete start update  

Once Ubuntu server complete installation then will start for updating all file up to date with option to cancel update and restart if we did not interrupt it will continue until update all file then will ask for restart

Step 12: First Login

Once Restart finish you will get page to login using your user name and password
