Get Amarok 1.4 back in Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04

Amarok has been my preferred music player since i started using Ubuntu some 3 years ago. It was nimble and so easy to configure and use. And then came Amarok 2.0. Though i wholeheartedly admire the effort made by those behind  this all new Amarok 2, i still have a lot of  issues with Amarok 2.x series.

I have an old motorzr v3i with itunes as music manager(which according to me is the biggest mistake done by those behind that otherwise incredible mobile phone). Amarok 1.x series was the only thing in Linux that worked properly with itunes. That was all over once Amarok 2.0 was released. So i badly wanted my old amarok 1.4 back. Please find it

Luckily i found this incredibly useful PPA repo from where i could install old Amarok 1.4 in Ubuntu Jaunty. Here is how it is done.

Add GPG key

  • Goto Terminal and copy-paste the following.
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys AE74AE63
  • Done.

Add PPA Repo

  • Open /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
  • And copy paste the followng repo into sources.list file.
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/bogdanb/amarok14/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/bogdanb/amarok14/ubuntu jaunty main

Install Amarok 1.4 in Ubuntu Jaunty

  • Before installing Amarok 1.4, do remove old amarok to undo any conflicts.
sudo apt-get remove amarok
  • Now install Amarok 1.4 in your Ubuntu Jaunty
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install amarok14
  • Done!

Are you happy now 😉
